Check the walk-on sentence and later opening before the lid is built

A lid closed into the deck before anyone records how it comes up again can block the roller. Walk-on wording and a later opening method stay with the series that states them. This page quotes Cover-Pools lid lines and Coverstar lid lines from pages fetched on 2026-10-11. The table is the comparison. A blank cell means that page did not state the item.

A light stone panel set flush in a concrete pool deck, with a separate brushed-metal panel resting over a slot beside it
A light stone panel sits flush with a concrete deck. A separate brushed-metal panel rests above a slot in the same deck.

Read the walk-on sentence on the named series before the lid is built. Cover-Pools says its standard aluminum lid is not designed to be walked on, and it says the Flat Bezel, the Tilted Bezel, the Flush Mount lid, and the finished Vanishing Lid tray with deck material are step-on or walk-on. Coverstar's homepage, fetched the same day, says the Stone Lid will withstand foot traffic, and it does not give a walk sentence for the Standard Flat Aluminum Lid, the Flat Aluminum Lid, or the Flush Flat Aluminum Lid. None of those pages prints a pound rating, a furniture load, or a planter load. Cover-Pools states, for the standard lid only: "The standard lid is not designed to be walked on."

Key points:

  • A walk sentence belongs to the series that prints it.
  • Coverstar's answer about walking on the cover is about the fabric cover, not these lids.
  • Service access is filled only where the page describes removal. Most lines leave that cell empty.
  • The bracket and form sizes on the Cover-Pools page are adjustment ranges, not a project span and not a load.

These rows are compiled from those two public pages. This site did not load a lid. The lid options guide still covers flush, hinged, and grate jobs. Housing around the lid is on cover box and housing.

What does each series say, and what did the page leave out?

The words below follow the manufacturer's sentences, fetched 2026-10-11. Where a page is silent, the cell is empty.

Series Manufacturer's wording Installation the page names Service access the page names
Cover-Pools Standard Lid Anodized aluminum. "An economical way to conceal and protect the recessed mechanism." Designed to sit flat on the deck. "The standard lid is not designed to be walked on." Underside track. Sits flat on the deck.
Cover-Pools Bezel aluminum lids "Bezel aluminum lids offer step-on strength with a streamlined appearance and beveled edges."
Cover-Pools Flat Bezel Lid "The Flat Bezel lid provides step-on strength with a more streamlined appearance and beveled edges." "Designed for Underside track systems."
Cover-Pools Tilted Bezel Lid "Features step-on strength with a narrow tilt to accommodate the track. It features beveled edges." Universal and SnapTop track systems.
Cover-Pools Flush Mount Lid "A walk-on lid that completely covers a recessed pool cover mechanism while remaining even with the surface of the deck." "Integrates seamlessly for vinyl liner pools and is available for wood or concrete boxes with Underside track." "The frame for the flush mount lid provides quick and easy installation and removal of the lid brackets."
Cover-Pools Vanishing Lid "The finished tray and deck material provide a strong walk-on lid that can blend with the surrounding deck." Extended lids "allow the cover to retract completely under the lids and hide the leading edge." Coordinating deck material.
Cover-Pools Vanishing Lid trays Stainless steel trays that support the base of the deck material. "Available with mesh supports or hat sections for added support and include two bolts for mounting to the bracket clips." The page says sections can be any size because the trays are custom. The tray line itself has no walk sentence. Two bolts for mounting to the bracket clips.
Cover-Pools Vanishing Lid brackets "Strong, adjustable stainless steel brackets." Extensions "adjust from 11.5 in. to 23.5 in. and accommodate lids up to 2 ft wide." Attachments named: anti-skid tape, adhesive plates, or lid clips. Those three attachments.
Cover-Pools Adjustable Vanishing Lid Forms A prefabricated form "to assist you in creating your own custom Vanishing Lid." Each system "can create up to three lid sections that are 24 in. long and adjustable up to 24 in. wide." The forms "include a lip to hide the bracket or to create a flat section to cover the mechanism end." The form line has no separate walk sentence. Type A coping to match the Cover-Pools curved Type-A reusable coping form, or flat coping with two straight edges.
Coverstar Standard Flat Aluminum Lid "Anodized for durability, this surface-mounted lid ensures low-profile protection and reduces risk of tripping." Surface-mounted.
Coverstar Flat Aluminum Lid "Crafted from heavy-grade aluminum with an architectural finish, this lid provides long-lasting performance for new or existing covers." New or existing covers.
Coverstar Flush Flat Aluminum Lid "Built into the deck during construction, this lid sits completely flush for a clean, integrated look." Built into the deck during construction.
Coverstar Stone Lid "Made from stone, concrete, or other materials to seamlessly match your decking and withstand foot traffic."

The Bezel family sentence and the Flat Bezel sentence both say step-on strength. They are separate lines on the Cover-Pools page, so both rows stay. "Step-on strength" and "strong walk-on lid" are the words on that page. The page does not add a weight.

Coverstar's Flush Flat Aluminum Lid says the lid sits flush. It does not say walk-on or foot traffic. Cover-Pools' Flush Mount Lid does say walk-on. The shared word "flush" is not the same claim.

Common mistake: Treating every aluminum lid as unable to take foot traffic, or every stone lid as able to. On these two pages, some aluminum lines say step-on or walk-on, the Cover-Pools standard lid says it is not designed to be walked on, and three Coverstar aluminum lines say nothing about walking. The Stone Lid is the Coverstar line that says foot traffic.

Takeaway: Copy the walk sentence from the row that matches the drawing. Leave the cell blank when that row is blank.

Which lines describe opening the lid later?

A stone slab shifted over a deck opening, with metal brackets and a dark cavity underneath
A stone slab is shifted over a deck opening. Metal brackets and a dark cavity are visible underneath.

One line does. Cover-Pools says the Flush Mount frame "provides quick and easy installation and removal of the lid brackets." That sentence is the service-access cell.

The Vanishing Lid tray line says the trays "include two bolts for mounting to the bracket clips." That sentence names a mounting method. It does not describe a lift sequence, a hinge, or a service opening, so the service-access cell stays empty.

Every other row above is empty in that column. An empty cell is a question for the drawing of that series. It is not a finding that the lid is grouted shut, and it is not a finding that the lid lifts.

A stone slab edge resting on metal brackets with visible bolts, above paving and pool water
A stone slab edge rests on metal brackets. Bolts are visible in the brackets, above a paved surface and pool water.

The third picture shows a stone edge on metal brackets, with bolts visible. It is a picture of that hardware. It does not add a removal method the manufacturer pages left blank.

Takeaway: Ask for the removal sentence when the service-access cell is empty. The Flush Mount line is the one that already names removal of the lid brackets.

What do the printed sizes decide?

Cover-Pools prints two ranges on the lids page, and each stays with its line:

  • Vanishing Lid bracket extensions adjust from 11.5 in. to 23.5 in. and accommodate lids up to 2 ft wide.
  • Adjustable Vanishing Lid Forms: up to three lid sections, 24 in. long, adjustable up to 24 in. wide.

Those are the sizes that page states. They are not a load, and they are not approval of a pool width. Furniture, planters, and any extra weight on the lid are not given a number on either page fetched here. Those cells stay empty.

Takeaway: Record a size only when it is printed on that line. Record a load only when a document states one.

Does Coverstar's cover answer apply to these lids?

On the same Coverstar homepage, the question about walking on an automatic pool cover is answered about the cover. Coverstar says the cover "is built to hold the weight of several adults," and it does not recommend walking on the cover except for emergencies or removing debris. That paragraph does not name a lid series. It does not fill the empty walk cells on the Standard Flat, Flat, or Flush Flat aluminum lids, and it does not add a pound figure to the Stone Lid's foot-traffic sentence.

Walking on the fabric cover is a separate subject in can you walk on an automatic pool cover.

What else is on the Cover-Pools page, and why it is outside the table?

The same page describes deck-mount benches: the Everlast Bench, custom bench frames, and Everlast Ends. The bench kit is "a convenient, durable, and low-maintenance way to cover your motor, mechanism and fabric," in white, tan, or gray. The page does not call those benches walk-on lids, and it does not describe removing them to reach the roller. They stay out of the lid table.

Coverstar's cover-models page names the Eclipse, CS3000, Atom, and CS300HD mechanisms. It does not describe these lids. Mechanism wording is not copied into the table.

Frequently asked questions

If the lid sits flush with the deck, can people walk on it?

Only when that series says so. Cover-Pools calls the Flush Mount lid a walk-on lid. Coverstar's Flush Flat Aluminum Lid says it sits completely flush and does not say foot traffic. Coverstar says foot traffic for the Stone Lid. Fetched 2026-10-11.

Can a planter or a chair sit on the stone lid?

Neither page fetched on 2026-10-11 states a furniture load or a planter load. That cell stays blank until a document for the named series states one.

The tray has two bolts. Is that the service opening?

Cover-Pools says the Vanishing Lid trays include two bolts for mounting to the bracket clips. That is the mounting sentence. The page does not describe how the finished lid is opened later, so the tray's service-access cell stays empty. The Flush Mount line is the one that names removal of the lid brackets.

Method and sources

Updated October 2026. The table quotes pages fetched on 2026-10-11. This site did not weigh a lid, measure a span, or test a removal. A Pool Supply Unlimited listing for Coverstar lid X0004 was opened and is not used here, because the sentences are the dealer's, not Coverstar's page. A contractor article that mentions walk-on lids as a cost item is not used as a series specification. Cover-Pools' "Cover Any Type of Pool" page was opened and does not describe these lid lines.
