How to Clean an Automatic Pool Cover
Cleaning an automatic pool cover means rinsing debris off the top side while the fabric stays in both tracks. Work from the deck. Soft water and a fabric-safe cleaner are enough for most pollen and dust. Harsh solvents, pressure washers, and walking the sheet to scrub are how covers tear or leave a rail.

What you can do from the deck
Confirm the cover is fully closed and still in both guides. Rinse leaves toward the housing or the far end, whichever the installer named. Lift debris with a soft brush or a leaf rake that never hooks the webbing. Let the sheet dry before you open it if grit is still sitting in the folds.
Cleaner rules
Use only products the fabric maker allows. Household bleach, acetone, and deck acid are common ways to bleach or weaken the top coat. If a stain is under the sheet, treat the water chemistry first and read the chemistry page before you close again.
| Soil | Owner method | Do not |
|---|---|---|
| Leaves and pollen | Rinse and lift from the coping | Walk the center of the sheet |
| Dust film | Mild soap the fabric maker allows, then rinse | Degreaser or solvent |
| Bird droppings | Spot rinse, then the approved cleaner | Scrape with a metal tool |
| Green film on top | Rinse and check chemistry under the cover | Shock with the cover shut on a guess |

When cleaning is not the job
Stop if the fabric has left a track, webbing is cut, or you would have to stand on the cover to reach the stain. A pressure washer can drive water into the housing and cut coatings. Mold that returns after every rinse is often a water-level or chemistry problem, not a soap problem.
What to read with this page
Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.
If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.
A deck method that does not cut webbing
Rinse grit off the top, use the cleaner the fabric maker allows, and stay off the sheet. Pressure washers and deck brushes with grit still in the pile sand the coating off. Let the cover dry before you roll a wet, sandy sheet into the box.
常见问题
- Can I run the cover to dump debris?
- No. Travel with a load of leaves or water twists the leading edge. Clean first, then travel.
- Should I clean the underside?
- Only what you can reach from the deck with the cover partly open if the installer showed that method. Do not crawl under a closed cover.
- Can I use household bleach on stains?
- Not as a guess. Bleach and acid leftovers are how coatings die. Follow the fabric note, then read chemistry and cover damage.
