How to Clean Pool Cover Tracks
Track cleaning is the owner job that prevents most crooked-travel calls. Grit, scale, and leaves in the guides make one side drag. Clear what you can see from the deck with a soft tool. Do not oil the rails on a guess, and do not pry a bent guide back into line. Those are technician decisions.
What belongs to the owner
Open the cover enough to see the exposed guide, or work with it closed if the installer showed a top-track wipe. Remove leaves and sand before they pack under a glider. Rinse only if water will not sit in a motor box or a hydraulic housing. Dry grit is better than wet grit left in the channel.
Track cleaning checks
Look for the same debris on both sides. One dirty rail is enough to walk the leading edge. If a glider is missing or the fabric has climbed the wall, stop cleaning and use the track-repair page.

What not to put in the guide
WD-40, cooking spray, and silicone from a hardware aisle change how gliders bite and collect dirt. A hose blast into undertrack can flood the beam. Metal picks scratch the path the glider needs. If you cannot see the channel, you are past owner work.
