Undertrack Automatic Pool Covers
An undertrack automatic pool cover hides the guide under the coping so the deck stays visually clean. It is a new-construction choice, not a default upgrade. Coping design, service access, and square geometry have to be right before tile is set. This page is the hidden-track brief for owners and builders.

What undertrack is
Undertrack, also called under-guide or under-coping track, places the fabric guide beneath the coping line. From the deck you see water and coping, not a rail. The gliders still have to be reachable when something binds. A hidden track with no service path is a future tear-out.
When undertrack is the right cut
Use this row of the track matrix as a first cut. Recessed top track is the middle path if the deck will be cut but coping will not hide a guide.
| Track | Look | Best stage | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undertrack | Guide hidden | New construction | Needs coping access |
| Top track | Guide visible | Existing decks | Easiest to inspect |
| Recessed top track | Guide lowered in a cut | Deck remodel | Access depends on the recess |

What the coping and box must provide
The coping profile has to leave a continuous path for the glider and a way to inspect it later. Raised walls, tight radius corners, and vanishing edges fight a hidden guide. The housing still needs drainage and a lid plane that matches the deck. Hiding the track does not hide a flooded box.
What not to do on an existing deck
Do not treat undertrack as a retrofit slogan. Cutting finished coping to bury a guide is remodel work with structural and waterproofing risk. If the deck is already done, start at top track or a planned recess instead.
What to read with this page
Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.
If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.
Access you still need after the coping looks finished
Hidden track is not no-service track. Someone has to reach gliders, clean the rail, and reseat fabric if it leaves the guide. If the coping was detailed with no removable section and no end access, the pretty install becomes a demolition service call.
常见问题
- Is undertrack always better looking?
- It is cleaner when the coping was designed for it. A poorly accessed hidden track that later needs a cut coping looks worse than an honest top rail.
- Can undertrack be added after tile?
- Almost never without opening the coping. Plan it at design or choose another track family.
- Can undertrack go on a remodel?
- Only if the coping is coming off or a documented access detail exists. Otherwise use top track or recessed top track.
- Does undertrack change the leading edge?
- The bar still travels straight. The guide is just lower. Shape limits stay the same.
