Automatic Pool Covers for Gunite Pools

Gunite is the construction type that can still hide a track if the bond beam and coping are designed for it. It is also the type that locks you out once tile is set. The decision is beam width, housing rough-in, and elevation hold, not the plaster color. This page is the concrete-interface brief.

Why gunite is a timing problem

Shotcrete can take an undertrack cavity, a sized box, and a drain sleeve before coping. After tile, those provisions are remodel work. A gunite pool that was never designed for a cover is not "almost undertrack." It is a top-track or recessed-cut conversation.

Beam, coping, and box

The bond beam has to be wide enough for the chosen guide and still leave a path to inspect it. Raised beams and tight radii fight a straight leading edge the same way a freeform pool does. The housing end must be formed, not chiseled out of a finished spa wall later.

What the builder must hold

Elevations along both long sides. A half-inch drift in gunite shows up as crooked travel for the life of the fabric. Call the cover installer at beam and at coping. One visit after plaster is a retrofit visit.

What to read with this page

Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.

If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.

Bond beam and coping are the cover interface

Gunite gives you a beam you can detail. That is an advantage only if the beam is square enough and the coping pocket is drawn. A wavy beam with "the tile will hide it" is a crooked rail.

常见问题

Can we add undertrack to an old gunite pool?
Only by opening coping. That is remodel work with waterproofing risk. Start at top track unless the deck is already coming up.
Do steps in the gunite wall block a cover?
If they sit on a track line, yes. The guide needs a continuous path. Move the step on the drawing or drop automatic.
Should the cover installer visit before steel?
A visit before beam and coping is how housing and track family stay honest. After plaster is late for undertrack.
