Pool Water Level with an Automatic Cover

Automatic cover fabric is cut and commissioned at a named water level. Low water lets the sheet sag and drag. High water can flood tracks or lift the leading edge. The right number is the one on your install sheet, not a generic skimmer mark. This page explains the effect, not a DIY drain plan.

Calm pool that still needs weekly cover checks

Why the fabric cares about level

The sheet spans between two tracks and rests on or just above the water. That support keeps the leading edge square. When the water drops, the fabric hangs in a belly. Travel then pulls a loaded bar. When the water rises, gliders can wash out of the guides or the housing can take splash it was not meant to hold.

Low, high, and winter rumors

Owners sometimes drop the water for a freeze or a tile repair and leave the cover in service. That is a common sag and crooked-run cause. Ask before you drain. A winter close under an automatic cover still needs the operating level unless the installer wrote a different number.

What not to do

Do not run the cover to "find" the water. Do not assume spa spillover or a vanishing edge uses the same mark as a rectangular gunite pool. If auto-fill and cover spec disagree, the cover number wins until a technician reconciles them.

What to read with this page

Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.

If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.

Why the commissioned mark is not a style choice

Fabric systems use the water as a support between the rails. Too low and the sheet sags and drags. Too high and water climbs the housing or the lid. Find the installer mark and treat it as part of the machine.

常见问题

Where is the operating mark if I lost the paperwork?
Ask the installer for the commissioning note. A skimmer throat is a guess. Do not invent a new level from a photo.
Can I leave the cover on while the pool is low for a leak search?
Usually no. A low pool is not the commissioned system. Cover the opening another way if people can reach the water.
Evaporation dropped the level over a week. Should I still run the cover?
Bring the water back to the mark first if travel looks heavy or crooked. A small daily change is normal. A visible sag is not.
