Automatic Pool Covers for Freeform Pools

A freeform pool fights an automatic cover because the leading edge travels in a straight pair of tracks. Curves, beaches, and offset walls leave water the fabric cannot reach, or force a cover that only spans a rectangle cut out of the shape. This page is the shape review, not a promise that every lagoon can take tracks.

Shaped water that may not take a straight leading edge

What the leading edge cannot do

The bar stays square and moves down two guides. It does not flex around a kidney, a beach entry, or a guitar-shaped lagoon. If the waterline is not two long sides and two ends, someone has to decide which water stays uncovered, or whether a cover belongs here at all.

Coverability checks for freeform

A technician looks for a pair of sides that can take tracks, an end that can take a housing, and leftover water that the owner will accept. A drawing that only shows the water is not enough. The walkable deck and any raised walls decide the rest.

What not to do

Do not order fabric from a pretty overhead photo. Do not force top track around a radius that the glider cannot follow. Do not call the leftover water "close enough" if a child can still reach it. If the shape fails the review, use the safety-cover hub instead of a thinner automatic sheet.

If the shape fails

A leftover sliver of water is still water a child can reach. If the leading edge cannot close that sliver, use a manual safety cover on the full outline rather than a thin automatic sheet.

Infinity, custom, and spa pages are different jobs. Do not treat this page as a hub for every non-rectangle. Start back at automatic pool covers if you are still naming the shape.

How to brief a coverability visit

Ask the technician to mark which water the leading edge can close and which sliver stays open. Mark the two sides that could take tracks and the end that could take a housing. If that leftover sliver is large enough for a child, the honest product may be a full-outline manual safety cover.

常见问题

Can a freeform pool take undertrack?
Only on the sides that can hide a straight guide. Curves do not become undertrack just because the pool is new.
Is a custom leading edge a fix?
Some systems allow limited shaping. Treat that as a manufacturer engineering review, not a local bend of the bar.
Can a kidney pool take an automatic cover if we ignore the beach?
Only if the leftover water is documented and still an acceptable barrier. Ignoring a beach on a brochure is how people buy a rectangle on a lagoon.
Can a custom leading edge follow a kidney?
The bar still wants a straight pair of guides. Custom usually means which water you leave open, not a flexing front.
