How to Measure a Pool for an Automatic Cover

Automatic cover fabric is cut to finished waterline dimensions, not to excavation numbers. You need length, width, a square check, and photos of both ends and the coping. This page is the measurement method for a preliminary read. A technician still confirms before anyone cuts fabric.

Project documents that must show housing, drain, and tracks

What to measure

Measure at the waterline or the finished coping line the installer names, not across the patio. Record length along each long side and width at both ends. If those pairs disagree, the pool is out of square. That number matters more than a single average.

Measurement worksheet

Write these down before you send an advice request. Do not order fabric from a ten-year-old invoice unless a technician has confirmed the shell has not moved.

What not to do

Do not measure over a solar blanket and call it finished width. Do not assume a rectangle because the water looks straight. Do not climb onto a cover to tape the far wall. Walk the deck.

What to read with this page

Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.

If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.

Measurement worksheet

Write the same numbers a technician will reuse. Do not mix waterline and coping-outside in one cell.

常见问题

Are plans enough without field measures?
Design plans are enough to start a new-build conversation. Existing pools need field numbers. Shells move.
What if the two lengths differ?
Say so. Out-of-square pools can still take a cover with a documented plan. Hidden surprise at fabric cut is worse.
Can I measure from old construction drawings?
Use them as a start. Confirm on the finished waterline. Shells and decks move.
Do I include the spa in the rectangle?
Only if the cover must cross it. A spa in the travel path is a geometry problem, not a bonus on the tape.
