Automatic Pool Cover Construction Coordination
Automatic cover work fails when the builder, electrician, and cover installer each think the other owns the box, the drain, or the disconnect. Project readiness checklist
A job is ready to order fabric when every line below is named. Use this as a first-party checklist, not as a substitute for the installer's takeoff.
- Finished length and width, including the out-of-square pair
- Track family that can still be built at this stage
- Box footprint, depth, lid plane, and drain destination
- Electric disconnect or hydraulic pack room on the drawing
- Coping profile and service access for the glider
- Who owns each trade in writing
- Commissioning date with water at operating level

- When is the cover installer required on site?
- At design, box rough-in, coping, and commissioning. Those four visits are cheaper than a finished deck that cannot take the specified track.
- Can we add the cover after tile?
- Only as a retrofit with an honest track and housing plan. Do not promise undertrack after coping is set.
- Who calls the cover installer to the site?
- The builder should, at the hold points on this page, not after the coping is grouted.
- What if the electrician and cover tech disagree on the box?
- The cover drawing wins for pit size and dryness. The electrical code wins for the disconnect. Do not let either trade invent the other's detail.
