Automatic Pool Cover Electrical Requirements
An automatic pool cover needs a dedicated circuit, a disconnect the operator can reach, and a wet-location plan that matches the housing. Electric drive puts that work at the box. Hydraulic drive puts most of it at the power pack. This page names the provisions. It is not a wiring manual. A licensed electrician owns the connections.
What the project must provide
A circuit sized to the drive or pack, a disconnect in sight of the equipment, and protection that the local code requires for pool equipment. The cover installer does not invent those after the deck is finished. Write the split into the bid.

Electric versus hydraulic feed
Electric systems need dry motor space at the housing and a disconnect near that motor. Hydraulic systems still need a pack circuit and a disconnect at the pack. Moving the motor off the water does not remove the electrical trade. It moves the wet-risk.
What not to do
Do not open a wet motor box. Do not reset a breaker that immediately trips again. Do not bypass a key switch or a GFCI. Do not share the cover with a random patio receptacle. Those steps are injury and equipment damage.

What an owner may look at, and nothing more
From a dry location you can see whether a disconnect exists and whether a breaker is labeled. You should not open a wet box, reset a GFCI in a loop, or add a household extension to "test" the motor. That work is licensed-electrician scope.

- Why does the cover die after rain?
- A flooded box or a wet motor is a common cause. Drain and dry first. Then an electrician checks the circuit. Do not keep resetting.
- Can a pool electrician who does lights also land the cover circuit?
- If they are licensed for the work and follow the cover drawing. The cover technician still owns limits and travel. Write the split.
- Is a key switch enough protection?
- A key keeps casual users off the control. It does not replace a disconnect, a dry box, or a cover that is safe to travel.
