Automatic Pool Covers for Fiberglass Pools

A fiberglass pool can take an automatic cover when the shell is close to rectangular and the deck can hold a track without piercing the laminate. The decision is the flange, the coping, and later service, not the gelcoat color. This page is the shell-interface brief for new sets and existing fiberglass pools.

Molded pool shell that should not be pierced for tracks

What the shell will and will not take

Fiberglass arrives as a molded tub. Tracks usually live on the deck or in a coping detail, not through the wall of the shell. Drilling the laminate to hide a guide is how leaks and warranty fights start. Undertrack is a coping and deck problem, not a gelcoat problem.

New set versus existing fiberglass

On a new set you can still size a housing end and pick a coping that accepts a guide. On an existing shell the deck and bond beam are already there. Top track is the usual honest retrofit. A housing insert still needs one clear end that will not hit the deep-end hopper or a built-in step that owns the wall.

What owners can prepare

Photograph the flange, both ends, and any molded steps on the long sides. Measure waterline length on both sides. Send those with an advice request. Do not grind the shell to "make room" for a rail.

What to read with this page

Use the parent hub for the product family, then stay inside this cluster for the decision you still have open. The related cards below are the three pages that usually settle the next question without sending you back to a generic search.

If travel is already unsafe, leave the guide and open repair. If you need a preliminary system read, use request system advice with photos of both ends and both long sides.

What the flange and deck joint have to survive

A fiberglass shell wants track fasteners that do not crush the flange or leak into the bond beam. Top track on a well-supported deck is often cleaner than inventing an undertrack pocket the shell never had.

常见问题

Are all fiberglass pools rectangles?
Many are near-rectangular. Freeform fiberglass still fails the leading-edge test. Measure, do not assume the mold name.
Does fiberglass change the drive choice?
No. Hydraulic versus electric is still a housing and equipment-room decision.
Can I screw top track into the fiberglass lip?
Only if the manufacturer of both the shell and the cover allow that attachment. Many jobs fasten to the deck structure instead.
